COMPOSITION OF ARMY UNITS
“Maori And European Serve Together”
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 13. “It is not the policy of the Army to form Maori platoons or other groups as separate entities within units,” said the vice-Chief of the General Staff (Brigadier R. C. Queree) commenting on a statement made in Christchurch that the Canterbury Regiment intends to form a Maori platoon as a separate entity within its new volunteer formation. “Since 1949. when the Territorial Force was reorganised after the Second World War, the general policy has been that Maori and European serve together,” Brigadier Queree said. Any misconception that had arisen concerning that army policy may be quickly dispelled, he said. ‘“There is no intention of forming separate sub-units of Maoris and Europeans.” he said.
