Big Scrub Fire At Wellington
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 13. A great scrub fire lit the entrance to Wellington harbour on Saturday night. Firemen were still flooding smouldering embers tonight, more than 36 hours after the first warning was given shortly before noon on Saturday. Many acres of pine trees and flax were burned in the hills around Point Halswell as the fire spread through the reservation below Mount Crawford prison above Kau Bay to Scorching Bay. At the height of the fire, three machines and two trailer pumps attended. Fire brigadesmen. aided by police and auxiliaries, worked through Saturday and today to bring the blaze under control.
