CANTERBURY HAS FOUR BASKETBALL TRIALISTS-
Jpour Canterbury women’s » basketball players—Misses Colleen McMaster, Jean Fuller, Pamela Edmonds and Judy Dunlop—have been selected to take part in the New Zealand trials to be held in Wellington next June. From these trials, a team will be chosen to tour Australia next year. The most experienced player is Jean Fuller, who has a remarkable record of representing Canterbury for nine years. She first represented the province while she was still at secondary school, and has been a member of the Technical team since. She
has adapted herself particularly well to the international game, jumping well and passing cleverly into the goal circle.
Judy Dunlop, of the Kakatai club, has played for Canterbury for the last four years, and still attended Linwood High School when she first gained representative honours. Although short, she moves well into the circle and is outstandingly quick on rebounds. She is a most unselfish player, and although an accurate shot herself, passes well to the goal shooter.
Colleen McMaster is only
16, and is one of the youngest players selected for the trials. A fifth form pupil at West High School, she plays for the West Old Girls B. team. She was one of the outstanding players at the national tournament, and her shooting is very accurate. With improvement in her clearing movements, she is a strong candidate for the team. Having played for Canterbury and Otago, Pamela Edmonds (Technical) has a good record. A player who gives excellent passes and intercepts well, she holds her position admirably and her play around the circle is always of a high standard.
