LOCAL M.P. LIVES NEARBY

On Pages road at the corner of Bickerton street is an impressive V-shaped house of a storey and a half. This is the residence of Mr John Mathison, M.P. for the district and a Cabinet Minister. The house was built by co-operative family effort. Mainly built and designed by Mr Mathi-

son’s son, Alec, who is a trained builder, construction of the house drew in all the Mathison family, along with some friends and relatives. Upstairs the holse has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a sunroom; downstairs it has another sunroom, a dining room, a hall and a big

lounge. Big windows make the most of the sunshine. The Mathison family has been living in the house for two or three months now, but, in common with all new houses, there is still much to be done. Mr Mathison chose the site so that he could live right in his electorate. • •
