DIPPING AND DUSTING
Attention Drawn To Act
The attention of farmers is drawn to the provisions of the Stock Act relating to the dipping and dusting of sheep. To comply with the provisions of the act, all sheep must be dipped or dusted between August 1 of each year and April 30 of the following year, states the Department of Agriculture. Where sheep are dusted, this must be done within three months after they have been shorn by spraying with a dust containing a preparation that is effective for destroying lice and keds. Similarly, to comply with the requirements of the act in respect of dipping other than by plunging or immersing they must also be treated with a preparation effective for destroying lice or keds within three months after shearing. The department emphasises that farmers who dust or spray their sheep must do this within three months of shearing. Farmers are also advised not to offer sheep for sale which have been dusted or sprayed for less than three weeks. This advice is given because the insecticides take time to become fully effective against external parasites.
