Oman Colt At Matangi
Citril, the dam of the good winners Sarcelle and Ruve, foaled an Oman colt at the Santis Lodge Stud. Matangi, on Thursday. This youngster will be the last to be bred from Citril by her Riccarton owner, Mr F. A. Roberts. He has made a gift of the mare to Messrs Meier Brothers, proprietors of the Santis Lodge Stud. After a highly-successful race career which concluded on a winning note in the 57th Challenge Stakes at Riccarton in April. 1949. Citril was retired to the stud. She was first mated with Tormie and produced Adaris. He raced with moderate success in the colours of Mrs Roberts. Her second foal, in 1954, was Sarcelle. This Oman mare, which is also raced by Mrs Roberts, has already included among her successes the 1958 Great Easter Handicap, a race which was won by her dam nine years earlier. Ruve, also by Oman, was Citril's 1955 foal. She is raced by Mr J. H. G. O'Brien, of Wellington, who also has Malona in the Roberts’s stable.
In 1956 Citril left a filly foal to Summertime. This youngster was sold privately to Mr B. Wood, who was part-owner of Selling Fast, one of the leading two-year-olds in the 1957-58 season, which was sold to American interests. The Summertime filly was named Auriette. She gained two places from four starts as a two-year-old Jast season before bein'g turned out.
Citril’s present foal is her first since Auriette. She missed in 1957 and slipped her foal by Jekell last year.
