CHURCH’S STRESS ON TELEVISION

Vicar Appointed Director (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 31. Canon A. F. C. Charles, vicar of St. Aidan's Church, Remuera. has been appointed director of religious broadcasting and television for the Church of the Province of New Zealand. A new venture for the Anglican Church, it is seen as a placing of fresh importance upon the effect of mass . communication through television. Canon Charles will relinquish his parish, which he has had for nine years, on January 31, and take up his new appointment the next day. He will be based in Auckland.

Next month, Canon Charles will attend a conference on religious television in Sydney, and then visit Melbourne to investigate further methods of religious broadcasting and television. Last year, he spent some weeks studying religious television with the 8.8. C. in London and observed some of the problems in this field in France: and Italy.
