DYSENTERY IN CHEVIOT

Health Department Investigation

A Health Department investigation of Cheviot will begin today because of an epidemic of dysentery in the district. Last week 18 cases of bacillary dysentery were reported, according to figures given by the department yesterday. Since the outbreak began about 12 weeks ago there have been 61 cases of dysentery. The deputy medical officer of Health (Dr. W. I. Paterson) said yesterday he would be going to Cheviot to look into the matter.

Accompanying Dr. Paterson will be the department's senior inspector in Christchurch (Mr T. Houston).
