“DIVISION OF COLOUR”
Work Seen For Commonwealth
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PERTH, August 30-
One of the British Commonwealth's greatest tasks today was to save the world from the division of colour—the division between the Afro-Asian group in the United Nations, backed by Soviet Russia, and the free world —Earl De La Warr, chairman of the central council of the Royal Commonwealth Society, said in Perth yesterday. Only the Commonwealth, composed of every colour and of a multitude of creeds and races, was in a position to prevent this division, he said. “Australia, which is a Westernminded nation and yet geographically a part of Asia, can realise the problem's importance and contribute greatly to a solution.
“Knowledge and understanding of each other’s way of life—as could be gained through the society—are the surest foundations for the strength the Commonwealth could add to the free world,” he said.
