Methodists Advocate Full-Time Roles
The need exists to prepare i plans for the appointment of full-1 time Methodist hospital chap- ■ lains at the earliest possible op-[ nortunitv, according to a resolu-) tion by the North Canterbury; district annual Methodist Synod? The resolution calls on the social service associations to consult; with Synod committees in the] areas chaplains are required. “When a full-time chaplain is appointed the utmost care must' be taken to choose a minister) with a special sense of vocation; for the task of ministering to, the sick,” said a report of the! spiritual healing committee. | “Before taking up his duties it! is important that he should re-: ceive adequate specialist train-1 ing.” The committee advised a special overseas training course. “In Christchurch the Rev. H. G. Brown has been working as a part-time hospital chaplain for more than a year,” states the report. "The success of his work indicates what could be achieved by a full-time chaplain.”
