ZONING FOR INDUSTRY
Manufacturer’s Proposal
“The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, August 26. Manufacturers should pay more attention to the effects of town and country planning on industrial expansion, said the president of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association (Mr T. E. Bower). “To provide for that expansion and development of industry that must take place if we are to absorb into our working force the 125.000 additional people we are told we must employ by 1975, land for this purpose must be available. “Many industries have land set aside for such development." Mr Bower said, “and it can be a disconcerting event to find that the application of town planning regulations can alter the zoning of an area and possibly render it useless for the purpose for which it was originally intended.” Mr Bower said he was not criticising any local bodies but “the matter does appear to need co-ordination of some sort if industry is to be allowed to plan with certainty for future development."
