W. J. Godfrey Heads Qualifiers

TAUMARUNUI. Aug. 25. W J. Godfrey (Auckland), the young New Zealand amateur golf champion, today led the field in the qualifying rounds of the New Zealand Maori men's golf championship at Taumarunui. Godfrey's score was 146
Next was T. Ormsby (Otorohanga). with 149. in third place was T. P. Jones (Taumarunui) who has held the championship on three occasions. He scored 152 The present holder of the title, J Chapman (Auckland), was fourth, with 156. Others who qualified for match play in the championship tomorrow were: B. Tumata (Tuakau), S. Kopua (Cambridge). P Hura (Taumarunui), G. F. Keys (Taumarunui), C. G. Kevs (Taumarunui). C Hurihanganui (Rotorua). D. Morrison (Rotorua). C. P. Kevs (Taumarunui), T. Webster (Otago). B. H. Jones (Taumarunui). J. Doherty (Lochiel), and H. Heremia (Levin).
