Billiards NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY
Break Of 98 By
Harcourt
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 25. The feature of the second day of the New Zealand billiards championships being played in Wellington today was a break of 98 by W. Harcourt (Wellington) in a match against S. Moses (Taranaki). This was the highest break of the tournament so far.
Harcourt came back to form to win the match, 583 to 432. Moses could not strike the form which enabled him to win the New Zealand title on lour previous occasions, and is now eliminated from the championships. The early afternoon game between H. Robinson (Wellington) and W. Knott (Auckland) saw Robinson set up a commanding lead early in the game, although a good break of 74 by Knott lessened the leeway, but Robinson won, 571 to 333. The match between A. Twohill (West Coast) and E. Simons (Canterbury) resulted in an easy win for Twohill, 696 to 244. Twohill, who has won the New Zealand title five times in the las’ six years, was into his stride from the opening shot with breaks of 64*46 and 64. Simons, in contrast to his brilliant display against Moses on Monday, could not get going, and his play deteriorated considerably. Other matches resulted: J. Muir (Wellington) 441 beat D. Higgins (Canterbury) 437; G. Geddes (North Otago) 627 beat M. Read (Wellington) 365. Tomorrow's draw is: J. Muir (Wellington) v. P. Murphy (Waipukurau): G. Geodes (North Otago) v. W. Harcourt (Wellington); A. Albertson (Auckland) v. D. Higgins (Canteibury): winner of MuirMurphy match plays Twohill.
