Council Request Declined
The Halswell County Council wants the Christchurch Transport Board to extend its services as far as the Halswell built-up area A letter from the Transport Board received at yesterday’s meeting of the council said that the board had declined the council's request for a direct bus service. “Our position is unique, in that we contribute to the board in the form of a rate, but we are not getting any service,’’ said Cr. E. G. Robinson. There were no services from the Transport Board within the county, said the chairman (Mr J. MacKenzie). The board's levy on the county for the year had been £435, he said. "It's all money for nothing/’ said Cr. J. G. Macartney. Cr. M. St. J McKay moved that the council should make a further protest to the board. "I don’t think we should let this matter lie.” he said. The present Tiansport Board services run to the junction ot Hoon Hay road with Lincoln road and along Hoon Hay road to Lewis street, and also to the junction of Rose street with Hoon Hay road.
