KNEE-CAP SKIRT IN TIMARU
Residents Show Interest
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 20. The appearance of the Diorlength skirt and knee-caps caused raised eyebrows and a temporary dislocation of traffic in Timaru’s main street yesterday. Women shop assistants peered from shop windows and crowded doorways. Men engaged in their lawful occupations in Stafford street found they had business elsewhere, and would-be jaywalkers strolled somewhat selfconsciously towards pedestrian crossings and provided an entourage for the unsuspecting "model " The Senior Traffic Officer (Mr L. R. Jones) was busy taking a traffic census on the intersection of Stafford, Church and Strathallan streets but he was obviously ignorant of the reason for the slowness of vehicles. Some workmen became so excited that they tapped the window of a dispensary to draw the attention of the shop assistants to the “skirt.”
