HILLIS TO TRAUN FOR MR HAZLETT

Licence Granted

"The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL, August 20. The Invercargill horseman, W. J. Hillis has been granted a professional trainers’ licence. He will be private trainer of Mr W. E. Hazlett’s Simper Lodge team. Hillis, who served his apprenticeship with F. W. Ellis at Invercargill, has been attached to the Hazlett stable for several years, as head lad and first horseman. The combination has been most successful and Mr Hazleft has been one of New Zealand’s leading owner-trainers for some years. One of the last horses trained by Mr Hazlett was Capet, winner of the last Grand National Steeplechase, when ridden by Hillis. Horses representing Simper Lodge racing at the Eastern Southland Hunt meeting next week will be trained by Hillis, who will continue to ride the stable’s jumpers.
