New Surface For Birdcage
"The Press' Special Service AUCKLAND. August 20. Racegoers accustomed to viewing liorses in the birdcage parading on closely-mown turf are in for a surprise at the Pakuranga Hunt races at Ellerslie on Saturday. An allweather birdcage surface is being provided, consisting of hard-packed finely-crushed scoria which will keep dry in the wettest weather. Already hundreds of yards of scoria have been tipped, graded and rolled to provide the new surface When finished the area will be reddish-brown in colour, relieved by the green of lawn and hedge which will comprise the central “winner's circle.” NEW BRIGHTON TROTTING CLUB INC.
