NOXIOUS FUMES PROBLEM
Assurance Sought From Minister
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 20. The question of whether a plant quarantine station, which may be situated at Woolston, would have any undesirable qualities was raised in the House bf Representatives today by Mr N. E. Kirk (Government, Lyttelton). Mr Kirk gave notice of asking the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Skinner) whether he could give assurance that the plant quarantine station the Department of Agriculture proposed to establish in Christchurch would not constitute a public nuisance by the emission or dust or fumes, or in any other way. “It is understood that the department is considering siting the station in Woolston,” said Mr Kirk. “Residents in this district already suffer undue inconvenience from industrial activity.”
