FASHION PARADE FOR SCOUTS

( Volunteers Assist Den Fund

A fashion parade to begin a fund for a new Merivale Scout den was held in the Heaton Intermediate School last evening. Voluntarily organised with the co-operation of local retailers and manufacturers, the parade presented summer cottons and tailored garments for all ages 10 to 50.

The audience appreciated seeing attractive fashions modelled by older women with mature figures, as well as pretty frippery for the young and slim. Helpful information was given during the parade about labels to look for. In accord with overseas fashion last summer, the natural line predominated. But New Zealand women it seems are not going to let novelties like the trapeze and harem line slip away untried. The prettiest and most eyecatching frock was a trapeze style of rose-printed cotton. The roses were in vertical bands on a white background and the pattern was cleverly used in small, unpressed pleats falling from the bust-line. The model, Erin Pablecheque. wore it with a neat brimless. high-crowned white straw hat. A smart linen shirtwaister of lemon, teal and white was paraded by Sally Stopforth. The simplicity of the dress was accentuated by a perky straw boater. A pretty example of the new interest in collars was the rose and grey cotton worn by Veronica Richards. Its voluminous shawl collar standing away from the throat dipped almost to the waist in front.

An elegant summer outfit for an older woman appeared as a short-sleeved linen sheath dress worn under a simple mushroom coat. Also paraded was a Swiss cotton brocade ensemble. The straight sleeveless sheath dress had a heart-shaped neckline and the boxy jacket featured soft fullness at the back. Besides casual and formal cottons for young and older women, summer frocks for small girls were modelled by Maree Pablecheque. Women in the audience had ample opportunity to choose a summer wardrobe both for themselves and their fashion-con-scious daughters of any age. Mrs Eileen Pablecheque. compere for the evening, wore a saltair green French velvet dress The fabric was ideally suited to the style—a sheath back with the skirt draped in front with a hint of pleating from a Vshaped panel. Models for the parade were Mesdames Mae Currie, Dorothy Gowans, Iris Horgan and Misses Carol Brady, Erin Pablecheque, Maree Pablecheque, Veronica Richards, Sally Stopforth, Mrs Maisie McNair was the pianist and helping to prepare the parade was Mr Guy Linterman.
