WIGHTMAN CUP MATCHES
U.S. Leading Britain (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.), SEWICKLEY (Pennsylvania), August 15. The United States took a lead of two matches to one over Britain after the first day’s play for the Wightman Cup today. The Wimbledon doubles champions. Miss Darlene Hard and Miss Jeanne Arth, defeated Britain’s top doubles combination of Miss Christine Truman and Mrs Shirley Brasher, 9-7, 9-7, m the last match of tbe opening day’s programme. Earlier Miss Truman had squared the series at one match all by defeating Miss Hard, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, in the second singles match of the day. Miss Angela Mortimer. Britain's No. 2, was soundly beaten, 6-1, 6-1, by Mrs Beverly Fleitz in the opening singles.
