HUNGARIAN FINED FOR ASSAULT
Lunged At Seaman With Knife
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. August 16.
A Hungarian seaman, Ede Grossman, aged 22. who knocked down another seaman in a disturbance in an Auckland cafe last night and then outside lunged at him with an open spring blade knife was fined £35 in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland on Saturday. Grossman denied charges of assault and being In possession of an unlawful weapon. Mr A. A. Coates, S.M., convicted him on both charges and ordered immediate payment of the fine in default of 40 days’ gaol. The Magistrate said he was satisfied Grossman had the knife and used it. Had his ship not been sailing he would have been gaoled. The seaman who was attacked received a slight cut on a hand.
