’Quake Rocks Formosa
(Rec. 10 p.m.) TAIPEH. Aug. 15. A violent earthquake shook southern Formosa today, killing at least 14 persons and destroying 80 houses, the official Central News Agency reported. The agency, quoting the Weather Bureau, said an earthquake of sixth grade on the scale of eight rocked Formosa with its epicentre in the vicinity of Hungchun, the southernmost tip of the island. Taipeh was hit by a second grade tremor and it was felt slightly. No casualties or damage were reported in the city.
