HOSPITAL BOARD

Representation In Doubt

When it announced its nominees for local body elections last evening, the Christchurch Citizens' Association listed only six names for the North Canterbury Hospital Board election. At least another candidate will be chosen and possibly two, but no announcement has been made by the Government so far on the constitution of the new board.

In the past there have been 10 members elected from the city. Now, with a cut in the total number of members, city representation may be reduced to seven, or there may be eight. It is believed that the likely city representation will be seven. The association also announced only four names, all of sitting members for the Lyttelton Harbour Board. One more nomination will be made. Nominations for the city seats on the hospital, Lyttelton Harbour and North Canterbury Catchment Boards, with sitting members denoted by an asterisk, made by the association are:— *L. C. L. Averill. ‘A. J. Danks, I. C. Macintyre, ‘Mrs J. Mackay, T. R. Pollard, ‘Miss B. Webb. Two sitting members not seeking re-election are Mr P. Stanley Foster, a former leading surgeon, member of the board for nine years and chairman of the hospital committee, and Miss Mary McLean, who is a nominee for re-election to the City Council. Dr. Macintyre was, until recently, the board’s Director of Tuberculosis and superintendent of the Cashmere Sanatorium for many years. Mr Pollard is director of the Canterbury University Industrial Development Department. Harbour Board •F. W. Freeman, *W. P. Glue, ‘W. S. Mac Gibbon, ‘F. I. Sutton.

Catchment Board •A. T. Bell, *G. Jobberns. *J. G. McClelland, L. W. McCaskill. Mr McCaskill is associate professor and head of the department of rural education at Canterbury Agricultural College. He is a former member of the Catchment Board. Mr J. *L. Barriball, a member for three years, did not seek reappointment.
