CONDITIONS AT SKI FIELD
Snow In Good Order
Clear days and warm temperatures have predominated in the ranges of Canterbury this week, and the snow is in good condition for the many ski schools being held. Prime interest this week-end is in the national championships which will begin at Coronet Peak, Queenstown, tomorrow. There ‘have been several hard frosts at Lake Ida this week, and the prospects there are good for ice skating. The conditions at the major ski fields yesterday and at Lake Ida were:— Temple Basin. Arthur’s Pass.— The weather has been fine this week, and snow conditions are good. Tow operating. Craigieburn Range Fields I’Craigiebum Valley, Broken River Basin, Mount Cheeseman Mount Olympus).—Fine weather has prevailed this week, and there is good ski-ing in most basins. Tows and ski schools are operating and the access roads are in good order. Hanmer.—The access road is open and the skiable level is about 4000 ft. Both portable tow and the main field tow will be operating this week-end. Lake Ida.-—Eleven inches of ice covers most of the 30 acres of the main lake, according to latest information. Prospects for skating this week-end are good, but the company considers that this may be the last occasion foi outdoor ice skating this season. The roads are reported to be in good order.
