MEETING ENDS IN UPROAR
Liberal Jewish Movement
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 13.
A meeting called last night to interest Wellington Jews in the formation of a Liberal Jewish movement ended in near pandemonium as speaker after speaker was howled down, and threats and allegations were made. It was obvious after the guest speaker. Rabbi John Levi, an Australian who is completing his studies at the Hebrew Union College, Cincinatti, had concluded his address on the Liberal Jewish movement that the camps were divided.
The president of the Temple (Shalom) in Auckland. Mr Max Levy, presided over an attendance of about 150. He had an exceedingly difficult task to maintain order, especially at question time.
One member of the Jewish community rose to his feet and apologised to Mr Levy for the way in which pome members of his com? munity had conducted themselves at the meeting. Mr Levy announced that the first Liberal Jewish service would be held tomorrow evening.
