Tutankhamen’s Sceptre Stolen From Museum
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) CAIRO, August 12. The gold-plated sceptre of Tutankhamen, a king of ancient Egypt, has been stolen from the Cairo Museum, Egyptian newspapers reported today. The tomb of Tutankhamen, who ruled about 3500 years ago, is the only tomb of a Pharaoh to survive almost intact. It was discovered in 1922 by a British egyptiologist, Howard Carter, and Tutankhamen’s magnificent treasure now fills almost the entire top floor of the Cairo Museum.
