PRESBYTERIAN COUNCIL

N.Z. Delegation To Attend Two representatives of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand will leave by air on July 21 to attend the 18th general council of the World Presbyterian Alliance in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from July 27 to August 6. They are the Moderator, (the Right Rev. Dr. J. D. Salmond,) of Dunedin, and Mrs A. C. Whitelaw, of Wellington, who for the last five years has been area secretary for the Asian and Australasian section of the women’s department of the Alliance. They will later attend the centenary celebrations of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil at Rio de Janeiro. The World Presbyterian Alliance is the meeting point for 75 Presbyterian and Reformed Churches throughout the world, representing nearly 50 million Christians whose religious tradition os traced through the Calivinist Reformation of the 16th Century. Several of the member churches such as the Church of Scotland and the Netherlands Reformed Church are national Churches. With its secretariat in Geneva, the. Alliance has been active in promoting inter-church aid, with special emphasis in recent years on refugee relief. Administrative expenses are borne by the Alliance so that the whole of aid contributions are delivered to the church or project being assisted.
