Full-back's Goal

It to not often that a soccer full-back scores a goal for his side, and it to an even rarer occurrence In a representative fixture, but the feat was accomplished by I. Laby (Western) in a Junior National Cup (under-18) match last Saturday. Playing for Canterbury against South Canterbury, Laby secured a loose ball, moved downfield and shot a long hard drive into the bottom corner of the net. In a match which Canterbury dominated throughout, another young Western player, A. Bishop (centre-forward), scored six goals with a convincing display of powerful and accurate shooting. Canterbury won the match by 11 goals to nil.
