RAILWAY CRANE TOPPLES OVER
North Line'Blocked For While
AUCKLAND, July 5. , A 40-ton railway crane crashed over on its side about 9.30 on Saturday morning, blocking the main line north. The crane was lifting sections of rails at Mount Eden station. A steam crane and a gang of men using jacks righted the crane about noon, but it was not until 5.20 p.m. today that the crane was pulled back on to the rails and brought to Auckland. The crane’s driver, Mr L. Frost, was unhurt, and only slight damage was done to the crane. Railway department officials said that the crane was designed to lift 40 tons, but on this occasion its load was only about two tons. Mr Frost said that an error in the angle at which the crane was lifting caused it to topple over.
