OVERSEAS SHIPS DELAYED
Engine Trouble And Rough Seas
AUCKLAND, July 5. Engine trouble caused two overseas ships to arrive late in Auckland at the week-end, and a heavy swell in the Pacific has delayed two more.
The Pacific islands liner the Tofua, coming from Suva, had to travel at reduced speed for most of Saturday when engine trouble occurred off the north of New Zealand. She berthed at 2 p.m. today, five hours late. The Tofua is due for her annual survey this week.
The tanker, the Stanvac Karachi, was also delayed by engine trouble, and arrived in Auckland from Bombay this morning, a day late. Rough seas delayed the freighter, the Waiana, carrying a small cargo of copra from Nukualofa. The ship, which was t arrive on Saturday afternoon was about 12 hours late. The refrigerated freighter, the Crusader, due to arrive from Rarotonga at 4 p.m. today, has also been delayed by the weather and will not berth until tomorrow morning.
