ASIAN STUDENTS ENTERTAINED
Pan-Pacific Women’s Association
Asian students and Pacific Islanders resident in Christchurch were entertained at a party given by the and South-east Asia Women’s Association on Saturday evening. There were 200 present at the function including members and friends. Mr Hovell gave a traditional Maori welcome and on behalf of the association, a. patron, Miss K. O’Connor, welcomed the guests. Mr Sahid Mohammed, president ot the University of Canterbury International Club, replied on behalf of the guests.
The official programme included a poi dance performed byj two small girls. Misses Wendy and Rosalind Sampson: a monologue by Miss E. Neville; action and part songs and stick games by pupils of Te Wai Pounamu Girls' College; Russian, Spanish, Hungarian. Swiss and Javanese dances by ballet students: a cabaret scene by the drama circle of the Overseas League and songs presented by a group of Pacific Islanders.
League for Hard of Hearing.— The Christchurch branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing was entertained at its recent social afternoon by Mrs J. Mason's concert party. A musical programme and a sketch, written and produced by Mrs Mason, were presented.
