INQUIRIES AT TRENTHAM

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 5. .. The judicial Committee of the Wellington Racing Club issued the following report after the racing at Trentham on Saturday:—

MeHri Steeplechase An inquiry was held into the running of the favourite. High Star (A. J. Murray), which was pulled up with a little more than a round to go. Murray said he thought the horse had broken down. He said High Star was never going well arni was struggling all the time. The veterinary surgeon reported that High Star had taken skin off both stifles and there was also a cut on a foreleg No action was taken. Vittoria Hurdles The veterinary surgeon reported that Garbett received a deep lacerated wound on a fetlock joint and dtfiressed after the race. Garbett (H. J. Ford), after racing prom*n*Hly throughout, finished last. ■ M.,-Keenan. rider bf Anzio. was charged under three rules in relation to his riding of Anzio. The stipendiary steward, Mr W. Freeman, said that as Keenan was leaving the scale after weighing out he noticed that the jockey was not wearing spurs. He asked Keenan if he .intended riding without spurs and Keenan replied in the affirmative. When the horses were leaving the birdcage it was noticed that Keenan was wearing spurs. After tne taee when Anzio returned to the birdcage, Keenan was not wearing spurs. Keenan admitted wearing spurs during the race and also admitted disposing of them on the*track before he returned to the birdcage. He was suspended up to and including August 8.

Stewards’ Handicap Fair Merit was a late scratching after the totalisator was opened ana investments were refunded. The veterinary surgeon reported that Fair Merit had an abscess and was lame in a tore toot, and was not in a fit condition to start. The trainee, C. E. Davis, said he had noticed nothing when Fair Merit had been walked tn the morning, and the lameness was not discovered until the horse was brought to the course. Whyte Handicap Approaching the five furlongs. Phoenician had to be checked off tne heels of Foglia d’Oro Inside the last furlong Phoenician tried to go between Bunyarra and Disarm but the gap closed and the horse had to be checked. No blatne was attachable to any rider. Near the post, D. J. O’Sullivan, rider of Disarm. had to stop using his whip when his mount attempted to run in slightly under pressure.

' Te Aro Hack Handicap J. W. Harris, rider of Kenlock, which hung in in the last furlong, was charged with causing interference to Sajalite. After hearing the evidence and viewing a film of the race, the judicial committee decided not to disturb the judge's placings and dismissed the charge. Near the five furlongs Hauparu Bay (V. J< Sellars), which was having difficulty holding her place, had to be checked off the heels of Kenloclj» and drifted back several places..
