Man Dragged Into Jet Intake

A young airman was fatally injured when he was dragged into the alt intake of a Sabre jet fighter- at Williamtown R.A.A.F. base, about 100 miles from Sydney, today. He was sucked more than 16 feet into the intake as he walked in front of the jet’s nose. The man, a ground staff mechanic, died in a R.A.A.F. ambulance while being rushed to hospital. The pilot was preparing to stop the engine, as the airman walked into the air stream, and did not realise what had happened until otherairmen gave the alarm.
