111-Thrift Urged
The nnmber of people working on stock thrift problems in New Zealand was so small that apart from someone striking something by chance very little progress could be expected in the near future, Dr. J. W. McLean, head of the veterinary department at Canterbury Agricultural College. told members of the Lauriston Farm Improvement Club last week. Dr. McLean said finance and the availability of trained personnel were the two governing factors. He said he felt the authorities had assessed the importance of these problems, but they were limited in what they could do by finance. '
If farmers could formulate '* plan, with money perhap* being provided by them through a levy on produce, and the State provided some • funds in addition, then he believed that some progress might be made.
