D.D.T.-SUPER MIXES
Improvement In
Standard
A welcome and definite improvement in the standard of D.D.T. superphosphate mixes made at fertiliser works throughout New Zealand was reported to the Massey College sheepfarmers’ conference this week hy Mr J. M. Kelsey, officer in charge of the entomology sub-station of the Entomology Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at Lincoln. Mr Kelsey said that according to information just given him by Dr Doak, of the Fertiliser Manufacturers’ Research Association, only three of 78 samples analysed had been on the low side for D.D.T. content, and then by not more than 5 per cent, from the’ requirement, and practically none had an unduly high content These samples came from all North Island and some South Island works.
In h;s paper, Mr Kelsey said that some South Island works were changing from serpentine super to super compound wherever D.D.T. wet rhixes were involved. This was because of the slower field action of the coarser serpentine super. The change, he said, should be a big improvement as the super compound from these works was very much finer and the D.D.T. spread would consequently be better.
