RELIGION FOR SCHOOLS

Most Instruction Bv

Volunteers

Almost all children in Standard IV and Forms I and II in Christchurch schools are receiving religious instruction, saia the field secretary (Sister Margaret Reid), when reporting on her work during the last six weeks ih Canterbury, to the Ntew Zealand Council for Christian Education in Christchurch.

The teaching was all being done by voluntary teachers, very many of them ministers. In most cases the syllabus, handbooks and activity books were prepared by the council. Much help had been giVen by the Parent-Teachers’ Associations, she said. During her work in Canterbury, Sister Reid has addressed a number of meetings and conducted training courses for volunteer Bible lesson teachers in State schools. These have been held in various suburbs.

Sister Reid will next go to South Canterbury. She is spending this year visiting different district committees throughout the country.
