AUSTRALIAN TOUR POSSIBLE

Phy Depicting N.Z. Atmosphere

The New Zealand Players’ Company would like, to tour Australia -with a play depicting the atmosphere of New Zealand, said Mr James L. Clarke, a representative of the company, in an interview in Christchurch.

Mr Clarke is acting as company ’manager for the New Zealand tour of Ray Lawler’s “Summer of the Seventeenth Doll” by the Australia Elizabethan Theatre Trust. The Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust was a similar oganisation to the New Zealand Players’ Company, “but we envy them for their Government sponsorship,” Mr Clarke said. "The New Zealand Players’ Company has no definite plans for a tour of Australia, but we would like to reciprocate the tour by the Australian trust x

“At present we do not even have a play in mind; perhaps it has not been written yet” “The Doll” had now toured the English-speaking world and had also played in Oslo and countries behind the Iron Curtain. In all countries it had been a great success and was the first Australian play with an Australian cast to reach London’s West End. When the New Zealand. tow concluded, next month- the cast would fly to Sydney to open there for the fourth time, said Mr Clarke. ,
