Attempted False Pretences

Quick thinking by b member, of the staff of Hay’s, Ltd., last evening led to the arrest of a man who attempted to pass a valueless cheque. A bid that the man made to escape when he realised that he had been detected, was also foiled by staff members. ' The man went into the store early last evening, selected an electric iron and offered the cheque to pay for it The cheque was taken to a central office to be passed and while being questioned about the authenticity of the cheque, the man suddenly made a break for the nearest door. Staff held him, and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch were called. It was found that, the cheque was one front a .cheque book that ttSLJSS appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of at* tempted false pretences.
