Red Cross Stamps

Sir, —Could we be told why neither New. Zealand nor Australia is shown on the maps depicted on the Red Cross stamps? If the stamp is an international one, good; but if designed for us it surely ought to show our part of the world.—Yours, etc., WONDERING. June 26, 1959.

[The chief postmaster of Christchurch (Mr R. Elcock) replies: “It has been officially stated that the stamp waa designed to mark the centenary of the birth of the Red Cross idea which originated on the battlefields of Solferino, Italy, in June. 1859, and led to the founding of the International * Red Cross.”]
