The High Commissioner of the New Zealand Trust Territory of Western Samoa (Mr G. R. Powles) left Auckland for Fiji by Pan American Airways last night on his way back to Apia, -le arrived in New Zealand a week ago and had discussions in Wellington with the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) and the Minister of Island Territories (Mr Mathison)—(P.A.) The resignation of Mr J. Allan, a member of the Christchurch Boys’ High School board of governors, was accepted at a meeting of the board yesterday. Mr Allan has been appointed principal of the new Hamilton Teachers’ College. The chairman (Mr C. H. McPhail) and other members paid tributes to Mr Allan’s work on the board.

Mr S. Robson yesterday assumed the position of district administration officer with the Lands and Survey Department in Christchurch. He succeeds Mr R. M. Velvin who has been transferred to Wellington. Mr Robson, who has come from Invercargill, is the new secretary of the Mount Cook National Park Board. Senior Detective-Sergeant J. B. McLean, who is in charge of the prosecutions branch at the Christchurch Central Police Station, has been recommended for promotion to inspector. Sergeant H. McLean, also of Christchurch has been promoted to Senior Sergeant and will be transferred to Invercargill.
