Obituary MISS M. J. MARTIN

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, July 2.

A well known member of the nursing profession. Miss Mary Josephine Martin. M.8.E., died in Dunedin yesterday, aged 81

In 1939, when she was matron of Sunnyside Mental Hospital, Christchurch. Miss Martin was awarded the M.B.E Before her appointment to Sunnyside in 1925 she had been matron of Tokanui Mental Hospital, Te Awamutu, since 1920 and before that she had been assistant matron of Seacliff Mental Hospital from 1917. Miss Martin was associated with the founding of .the Plunket Society in Dunedin and throughout her life took a keen and practical interest in its work.
