Supreme Court To .< Impose Sentence
Stewart Charles Hendry, aged 29. formerly a bank ledger supervisor (Mr J. G. Leggat) who pleaded guilty on Monday to charges 6f theft of £lOlO ss. and £9200 from his employers, the Bank of New Zealand. Ltd., between May 1 and 19, appeared for sentence in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He was remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence by Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M. Hendry had previously been remanded on bail of £5OO in his own recognisance, with two sureties of £5OO. When renewal of bail on these terms was sought by. Mr Leggat the Magistrate directed that the application should be made to the Supreme Court “The prisoner has pleaded guilty to the theft of an excessive sum of money.” said the Magistrate. “The offences were premeditated, well planned, and systematically carried out. and he planned to escape from the country with the proceeds. For these reasons. 1 do not consider that I have sufficient jurisdiction in fhe circumstances to deal with him.”
