PARLIAMENT’S DIARY

In a busy day in Parliament yesterday, six bills were presented, passed through the committee of the whole, and given their first reading. The Economic Survey and a number of annual reports, including those of the Police Department, th* Department of Island Territories, Western Samoa, and the Maori Purposes Fund Board, were presented. and 13 questions were asked, eight of them by members of the Opposition. The House then went on with the Address-in-Reply debate. The bills introduced were: the Families Protection Bill, the Construction Bill, the Harbours Act As>sndfc| Bill, the Valuers Registration Bill, ■ the University Amendment Bill, and the Government Life Insurance Amendment Bill Speakers in the Address-in-Reply debate were:— Government: Messrs R. J. Tizard (Tkmaki), N. G. Pickering (St Albans), E. J. Keating (Hastings), the Post-master-General (Mr Moohan), and the Minister of Marine (Mr Fox). Opposition: Messrs W. B. Tennant (Manawatu), F. -L* Gotz (Manakau), R. M. Algie (Jtemuera), T. P. Shand (Marlborough), R. G. Gerard (Ashburton), and J. H. George (Central Otago).
