Shooting Victim Loses Leg

John Avon Hutcheson, the 23-year-old victim of a shooting accident at the week-end had his right leg amputated above the knee at the Timaru Public Hospital last evening. His condition was reported to be comfortable. Both Hutcheson’s legs were injured as the result of the accidental discharge of a gun carried by a companion during a hare drive near Elephant Hill, Waimate. A few pellets were lodged in the left leg.
Two Shops Entered.— Webster’s Food Centre. 122 Marshland road, was broken into through a rear window on Tuesday night and cigarettes, a billy, a saucepan and a pound of sausages of a total value of £3 10s 8d were stolen. The butcher’s shop of Mr W. A. Cross. 134 Marshland road, was also entered and food including three pounds of steak and a pound of sausages, was stolen. Entry was gained through a rear window.
