cause it has proved impossible for the two countries to obtain reasonable whaling quotas.** The company added that the consequences of the withdrawals were difficult to foresee.

The company further announced that the convention had decided at its closing session in London yesterday to advance the opening date of the whaling season from January 7 to December 28. Holland and Norway, along with Britain, Japan and Russia constitute the “big five” of whaling. In addition, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Sweden, South Africa and the United States are members of the convention.

An official communique is expected to be issued in London later.
