BANKRUPT SENT TO PRISON
Charge Of Obtaining Credit

A gaol term of nine months was imposed on a bankrupt, who appeared in the Magistrate's Court at Hamilton today charged with obtaining credit amounting to £4Ol 2s 7d. The accused, James Basil Victor McCollins. widower, of Auckland, pleaded guilty to four charges. For the Official Assignee. Mr M. J. Gavin said McCollins had obtained £241 from an elderly retired man he had met in Te Awamutu. At that 'time Me-. Collins was an undischarged bankrupt. For McCollins. Mr H. W. Burley said the debts were incurred to obtain materials and feed needed in the care and maintenance of 2000 chickens. He offered to return goods to one firm when they asked whether he was a bankrupt, but the offer
nett, C. Radford, M. Eden. offered to assign the bulk of his wages to a solicitor to repay the debts.
Mr L. M. Inglis, S.M., said it was the duty of the Courts to see that bankrupts complied with the terms of bankruptcy.
