The top-seeded player, M. L. Rooney, has had to withdraw from the Christchurch squash rackets championships, which are being played this week, due to a sprained ankle. Rooney won the title last year. He defaulted last evening in his quarter-final match with L. G Holder.

A seeded player, T. de Lange, was defeated in the quarter-finals in a long match by M. O. Holdsworth. In another five-set match on the previous evening Holdsworth had eliminated another Wigram player in E. Arundel. M. R. Blank struggled to beat P. M. Hill in five sets, but R. G. Pattinson had an easier task to win his quarter-final match with J F. Cotter. Results of quarter-finals were:— M. R. Blank beat P M Hill, 6-9. 5-9, 9-1. 9-4. 9-5: M O. Holdsworth beat T. de Lange. 4-9. 10-8. 10-H. 5-9, 9-5; R. G Pattinson beat J F Cotter. 9-4, 9-2. 9-6; L. G. Holder beat M. L. Rooney, by default.
