RACING JESSE OWENS MAY WIN AT WASHDYKE

Jesse Owens and Timely Boy might form the successful combination in the T.A.B. double on the second day of the South. Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday. . % '♦ Jesse Owens is near the middle of the handicap in the first leg, the Doncaster Handicap. He was fourth behind Cheyenne, Royal Avon, and Copenhagen in a stronger field last week. ?

Royal Avon will again oppose Jesse Owens, and will stand a better-than-average chance il he runs as well as he did last week. This was his first flash of form since a third against the hack stayers at Wingatui in February. He will be bracketed with Ration Time, which is a form runner after a fourth against the stayers in the Donald Grant Memorial Handicap last week. The second leg, the Taiko Hack Handicap, will be Timely Boy’s first race since December, but the distance, six furlongs, will not place heavy demands on him He was a successful campaigner for E. P. Corboy’s Wash dyke stable on his early-season campaign, and took fairly high ranking among Canterbury’s bast hack sprinters
