10,000 VEHICLES UNREGISTERED

Rush To Relicense By Deadline

More than 10,000 motor vehicles in the Christchurch registration district will not have the new orange stickers required today. Yesterday’s registration figures will not be known until about noon today but Post Office staff said that business was much heavier than the previous record day on Monday when 4305 vehicles were relicensed.

Christchurch registrations now total 48,216. A spokesman said that the final figure would be approximately 60,000 if all vehicles were relicensed.

Last evening about 300 persons relicensed their vehicles when the Post Office motor registration branch opened from 6.30 to 8 p.m.
