HIDE PRICES SHOW STEADIER TONE (New Zeatana Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 23. Prices for hides at the fortnightly Auckland hide and skin auction today reflected the steadier tone evidenced in market overseas. The marked decline shown since the middle of April was partially halted. In North America, one of.. New Zealand's main markets for hides, prices have become more stabilised after an appreciable drop in the last few weeks. At the previous sale hide prices had fallen 23.5 per cent, from their peak level reached on the April 14 sale. Today, however, saw some slight recovery. The best price for Auckland abattoir ox hides moved up by -jd to 25 7-8 d per lb. while farmers’ yearling and calf hides improved by 4Jd to 20 l-8d and ]d to 27Jd respectively. Country butchers’ yearling hides were unchanged at 45 l-Bd. The salted sheepskin market was erratic, but movements were not particularly great. On the whole prices remained on the high level of the previous sale. Prices for dry sheepskins continued their easing trend shown at the previous sale, with losses ranging from l£d to 6d per lb.
